Water Meter Readings

Meters are read around the 12th day of these months: March, June, September, & December.  We please ask that you keep all pets tied up and away from the area in which your meter remote is located.  We also ask that you make sure your remote is easily accessible and that there is nothing blocking it or covering it.

Water Main Breaks

Water main breaks most commonly occur when the water inside the pipes freezes and then expand against the pipe creating weak points in certain areas.  When the weather warms up enough for the water to melt, it causes the weak points in these pipes to become unstable and if enough pressure builds up against that weak points the pipe will break.

Here are some reminders about your water when there is a water main break. You will be notified in person or by a hand delivered notice to your home if there is a break. If the break is severe enough to effect a large area or a majority of the Village it will be mentioned on the local news and radio stations.  In the event of a break we may be forced to turn off all water in that area for a short period of time.  If there is a boil order in effect you will need to boil your water before drinking it  or before using it for any sort of cooking purposes. Bringing your water to a rolling boil for at least five minutes will ensure that your water is safe to drink. After the labs have approved our water samples we will then notify you that the boil order has been lifted. This process usually takes about four or five days after the initial break.

Winter Snow Removal

Our Maintenance crew works hard during the winter season to keep the streets clear of snow and ice.  To ensure that snow is removed from the streets as much as possible we ask that you move your cars off of the streets if more than 2 inches of snow is expected.  This will allow us to get as close to the curb as possible without having to make several unnecessary passes.

There is also a Village Ordinance stating that it is unlawful to shovel, blow or distribute snow from a personal drive or side walk into the streets.  Title II, Article 3, Section 28 (PRIVATE DRIVE SNOW REMOVAL).  “It shall be unlawful to clean private drives or sidewalks in such a manner as shall result in the deposit of snow into the public ways due to the snow removal from such private drives or sidewalks.“  This will create more work for our Maintenance crew and will cause them to work twice as hard in your area instead of moving on to the next street. Please shovel, blow or distribute your snow into your yard or some other place on your private property.

Hydrant Flushing

Currently we are flushing the hydrants twice a year but with stricter regulations coming up in the future we will begin flushing certain hydrants on a regular basis. The hydrants that usually require the most amount of attention are the one that are at the end of a water main.  Cliff Heights, Orchard Court, Cherry Court, Greenwood Court, Greenwood Avenue, Pleasant Avenue, The north end of Sinclair Blvd., and the north end of Mansur Avenue contain hydrants that will be flushed on a more regular basis.
